Itinerary

Day 1: Trek to Las Torres Lookout – Refugio Torres Central

Depart Puerto Natales at 7:00 AM, heading north toward the legendary Torres del Paine National Park. As the journey unfolds,
vast windswept pampas stretch to the horizon, dotted with wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for graceful guanacos, elusive Darwin’s rheas, vibrant Chilean flamingos, and elegant black-necked swans gliding across tranquil lagoons—early signs of the wilderness that awaits.

Upon arrival at Refugio Torres Central, take a moment to settle in and breathe the crisp mountain air before embarking on the first hike of the journey—the iconic trail to Las Torres lookout.

The adventure begins with a steady climb along the banks of the Ascencio River, winding into the heart of the Ascencio Valley. After about an hour, you will reach a scenic viewpoint, perfect for pausing and taking in the dramatic surroundings—dense southern beech forests, distant waterfalls, and glacial crests sculpted by time.

The trail then leads deeper into the forest before ascending a massive terminal moraine, a stony ridge left behind by ancient glacial movement. As you reach the top—at 900 meters above sea level—the landscape opens up to reveal one of Patagonia’s most breathtaking sights: the three granite towers of Las Torres, rising sharply from the earth like sentinels in the sky. Here, you’ll linger to take in the grandeur, snap unforgettable photos, and enjoy lunch in the presence of this awe-inspiring
natural amphitheater.

After soaking up the view, make your way back along the same trail to the refugio, where a hearty dinner and well-earned rest
await.

Hike duration: 8–10hrs, 22km / 13.6 Mi

Difficulty: Medium/demanding

Meals: Box lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Camping or room at Refugio Torres Central

Day 2: Trek to Los Cuernos lookout; Refugio Los Cuernos

After breakfast, continue west along the W Trail. This quieter path veers past Inge Lagoon beneath soaring condors. The route gradually climbs along turquoise Lake Nordenskjöld, with the Horns of Paine standing sentinel above you. Traverse grasslands and river crossings as the terrain shifts. Settle and enjoy your box lunch meal with fellow adventurers into this remote corner of Patagonia.

Tonight’s stay is at the atmospheric Refugio / Camping Los Cuernos—nestled beneath glacial walls in a landscape of raw beauty.

Hike duration: 5–6hrs, 12km/8 miles

Meals: Breakfast, box lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Camping or room at Refugio Los Cuernos

Day 3: Trek to the French Valley; Refugio Paine Grande

Today’s journey takes you deep into the heart of the Paine Massif, on one of the most awe-inspiring and challenging treks in Patagonia.

After breakfast, collect your box lunch at the refugio and set out on a winding trail that leads to the French River, an invigorating hike. As you enter the French Valley, the landscape transforms into a dramatic glacial amphitheater. Towering peaks, jagged ridgelines, and suspended glaciers surround you, while massive boulders mark the way forward.

Here, the wild calls of native birds echo across the valley and the sound of rushing meltwater reminds you of nature’s relentless rhythm.

The climb continues through a surreal, almost otherworldly forest that feels like a Japanese garden sculpted by the wind and time. After an hour’s ascent, you’ll reach the Plateau, an unforgettable lookout that offers a panoramic vista of granite spires and cascading glaciers. To one side, the colossal Paine Grande (3,050 m) and the shimmering French Glacier; to the other, the iconic silhouettes of La Espada, La Hoja, La Máscara, and the distinctive horns of Los Cuernos.

In the upper valley, Mt. Catedral and Mt. Fortaleza stand like ancient watchtowers over this enchanted land.

Take your time to rest, enjoy your lunch, and soak in the grandeur of the wild. The return follows the same path to the valley entrance, before curving westward along the southern flanks of Paine Grande, Torres del Paine’s highest peak. As you hike through dense native forests of firebush and evergreen beech, Lake Pehoe emerges in the distance like a shimmering turquoise mirror.

Tonight, you’ll dine and rest at Refugio Paine Grande, cradled between forest and lake, under a sky full of stars.

Hike duration: 9–10hrs, 18km / 11 Mi

Difficulty: Medium/demanding

Meals: Breakfast, box lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Camping or room at Refugio Paine Grande

Day 4: Trek to Glacier Grey; Optional kayaking; Refugio Grey

Begin the day early with a nourishing breakfast before setting off on the ascending trail toward Laguna Los Patos, climbing 200 meters through ever-changing terrain.

From this high vantage point, you’ll witness a breathtaking panorama of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, a vast, ancient sea of ice that stretches into the unknown, guarding secrets within its remote, uncharted peaks.

As the trail continues to Glacier Grey viewpoint, it weaves through verdant forests and across glacial rivers, offering a chance to spot rare native species like the spectacled duck and the curious flightless steamer duck, gliding silently along the waterways.  The landscape here feels untouched, wild, raw, and powerful.

At the Glacier Grey viewpoint, enjoy a front-row seat to nature’s grandeur. Here, the massive ice wall looms ahead, with thunderous cracks echoing through the air as shards of ice calve into the steely waters below. This is a perfect spot to rest, enjoy lunch, and absorb the elemental power of Patagonia.

For those craving an extended adventure, continue your hike to the old Los Guardas campsite, a secluded point perched higher above the glacier offering a sweeping, elevated view of the icefield and surrounding mountains.
